The “Pine Forest”, painted approximately 420 years ago by Hasegawa Tōhaku, one of the most iconic painters of the Azuchi-Momoyama period (1573-1603), is now featured as a Hobonichi Techo cover.
This National Treasure, housed in the Tokyo National Museum, is hailed as a masterpiece of early modern ink painting. In this work, he avoids the prominent outlines typical of ink painting, using only delicate gradations to depict a windswept pine grove with hazy light seeping through the mist. He created this atmospheric scene through his mastery of Chinese-style ink painting, breathing new life into the classic subject matter of a pine grove.
This cover allows you to fully appreciate the beauty of “Pine Forest” that resides in the Tokyo National Museum as a national treasure. Whether the techo cover is open or closed, you can enjoy the beauty and serenity of this national treasure. The cover interior is a light blue faux leather that evokes the image of thawing snow. The “butterfly-stopper” pen holders act as a hinge, keeping the cover safely shut while you store a pen inside.
