Out of the Hobonichi original accessories, the Hobonichi Pencil Board is one of the most popular items. Keeping it underneath the page you’re writing on allows the reinforcement to provide an enjoyable writing experience. They fit perfectly to the size of the techo book, and will prevent your pen from sliding on the page, and not leave indentations on the opposite page, making for a comfortable writing experience.

These pencil boards feature artwork from Tomie, the debut and one of the most iconic works of horror manga artist Junji Ito. Using original illustrations from the manga, created nearly 40 years ago in 1987, the designs capture the eerie, one-of-a-kind world Junji Ito is known for. All three sizes are finished with a shimmering holographic effect on the front to evoke Tomie’s elusive beauty and mysterious allure.

The A6 size features a page from the Tomie: Passing Demon chapter, showing Tomie cheerfully strolling along. The back is a soft lavender color with an illustration of Tomie, raised in a grand mansion, dancing happily without a care.

The A5 size showcases a panel from Tomie: Adopted Daughter, with Tomie staring ahead—elegant, yet cold. The back, in gray, depicts a young Tomie skipping along in a foreboding scene where she encounters something unsettling.

The Weeks size also uses artwork from Tomie: Adopted Daughter, trimmed into an oval shape. The back is light purple and shows the haunting scene of a girl discovering Tomie’s eerily beautiful hair in her father’s study.

Each pencil board includes an English message, subtly placed somewhere within the design. It’s an edited version for the Hobonichi Techo of a line spoken by a male character in the manga, describing Tomie’s irresistible charm:
Her clear eyes, sweet and tart voice, and the fragrance that lingers on her skin... no one could possibly compare to Tomie.

The back has markings at 1mm intervals along the long edge, so it can also be used as a ruler.

The corner of the pencil boards include a “Today” tab, which will act as a bookmark to show which day you’re on if you put it between the pages of your techo.
