Moon Lists is a method of journaling and a way to pay attention differently.
It uses short-form questions and prompts for thinking with specificity about the present and recent past: the questions are a template for exchanging stories, for questioning ways of being, and reshaping life in new ways. Think of it as a condensed snapshot of who you are at this particular moment in time.

Why MOON?
Consider the experience of seeing the earth from the moon. When we look at anything from a different perspective, it becomes easier to understand (or to better recognize what makes it beautiful, or necessary, or useless). But when you're too close to the ground you lose the landscape. These prompts regard the moon as a metaphor for vantage: they are a reminder that we are guided by months and seasons, a system of order and natural rhythm that exists outside of ourselves.

Why LISTS?
A list can be a device for giving deep thinking concise guardrails. Lists require us to think with specificity and to articulate. They distill the wants, the nuance, and the singularities inside life's relentless routines. These particular lists of prompts are highly subjective (...and that's the point).

Moon Lists is a personal project from LUCCA studios, an editorial studio founded by Leigh Patterson. Coming from a background in archival research, editorial direction, and creative writing, she started Moon Lists as a creative practice and litmus test to take inventory of the present and recognize patterns in her own life, which she now shares through lists of monthly prompts.
