Tomoe River, which produced Tomoe River, stopped production of Tomoe River in 2021 due to a change in business policy. However, in order to continue the Tomoe River that is loved all over the world, the brand was transferred to Miyoshi Paper in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Miyoshi Paper, which has been producing 52 g/㎡ notebook paper since 1976, has reconsidered the raw material design using two types of pulp, hardwood pulp (eucalyptus) and softwood pulp (pine, etc.), based on its technology, and reconstructed the quality as Miyoshi Tomoe River S. As a result, the pulp in Miyoshi Tomoe River S is more uniform than conventional products, and the surface is smoother and the ink does not bleed easily.
The paper is also 5 microns thicker, making it harder. It also has a new function that makes it less likely to wrinkle when rubbed off with a friction pen. Miyoshi Paper began full-scale production of Miyoshi Tomoe River S in February 2022. In a fountain pen test conducted by Yamamoto Paper, even low-viscosity inks such as HERBIN's pink and red inks dried quickly, and did not bleed through to the back even when overwritten. The COVID-19 pandemic that occurred in 2019 has brought about major changes to the social infrastructure that has been cultivated in all areas. The impact was also significant in the papermaking industry, and the paperless trend in promoting telework was a further blow. Until now, Japanese paper manufacturers have placed importance on user feedback and past history, making different types of paper depending on the sales area, and developing a variety of papers for different purposes, even for the same type of paper.
As a result, a wide variety of paper brands have been produced, which is rare in the world. However, paper manufacturers, who have been put in a difficult situation by the COVID-19 infection, have accelerated the consolidation and elimination of less profitable paper brands in order to shift management resources. And now, various papers are being discontinued one after another. Therefore, in order to let you remember the writing comfort of papers whose existence is not guaranteed in the future, Yamamoto Shigyo's WRITING PAD series was developed as a writing pad by selecting papers through writing tests by Yamamoto Shigyo. Yamamoto Paper's WRITING PAD series is a collection of writing pads that let you enjoy the textures and writing experiences of various types of paper.
The outbreak of the global COVID-19 pandemic has brought about major changes in the social infrastructure across a wide spectrum of fields. The paper industry has also been greatly affected by this outbreak, with an accelerating trend to digitize traditional paper-based workflows to support remote workers hitting them particularly hard. Up until these times, Japanese paper manufacturers have strived to offer a wide variety of products to meet every customer's specific needs , tweaking formulations based on regional needs or for very particular usage. As a result, Japanese paper manufacturers have managed to produce a vast breadth of paper varieties that are unmatched in any other part of the world. though, the pandemic has put these paper manufacturers in a severe financial strain, forcing them to unfortunately find ways to cut costs for survival. The consolidation of product offerings has been accelerated and profitable paper varieties are rapidly being phased out.
