2025 Hobonichi Techo Japanese Cousin Avec Books (January Start)
We first introduced the Avec in response to customers who struggled with bulging books after collecting a year’s worth of pasted material in the daily pages. The Avec splits the year into books of six months each. Book 1 (January–June) is a bright lime yellow and Book 2 (July–December) is a cool ice blue.
Because it’s split into two books, it’s lightweight which makes it easy to carry around, and it also won’t get bulky even if you paste many things into your techo.
The Avec version splits the Japanese A5 Hobonichi Techo Cousin, design and all, into a 2-book set at six months each with only slight variances in calendar spans and the number of extra pages in the back. This allows you to fill the pages to your heart’s content with scheduling, diaries, little notes, tickets, photographs, doodles, and anything that strikes your fancy.
Not only is it useful for writing down your plans for the day, jotting down memos, doodling, pasting event tickets or photos, the spacious Cousin is easy to use as a techo to write down everything work-related, as a family notebook, tracking the growth of children and pasting in pictures to create a family album or sharing pages among family members. It’s also frequently used as a planner that is always kept on a desktop or table rather than carrying around.
After years of testing, the graph paper has been set to 3.7 mm for optimal writing comfort. The graph paper design allows users to write from any starting point on the page, and the lines have been printed in light colors so users can either customize it to their own layout or ignore it completely.
The Hobonichi Techo includes quotes specially chosen from its parent site, the Japanese web magazine Hobo Nikkan Itoi Shinbun. Each daily page has a quote in Japanese.
The Cousin also has an exclusive section: the popular weekly pages track a week in each two-page spread for easy planning and contain a handy time schedule.
The book has the same thread-stitch binding as a dictionary, allowing it to lay flat open for comfortable writing. It stays flat even if you don’t hold it down.
The book uses thin and light yet durable Tomoe River paper. This paper that underwent an overhaul with the 2024 edition techo is more resistant to bleed through, lighter despite being the same thickness, and has a smoother surface by adjusting the fibers of the paper.
Other than the daily pages with lots of space to write, the book contains several sections that are great for schedule management, such as a yearly calendar, monthly calendar, and yearly index page. The back of the book has bonus pages, including Sample Symbols and Icons, How to Have Fun Keeping a Diary, and Recommended Noodle List of 47 Prefectures.
The Hobonichi Techo is used by pairing a techo book with a cover. Pick out a cover of your choice from our large selection of convenient size Hobonichi Techo covers.
